Robert Thompson was born in Northern Ireland where he lived for most of his early life. His interest in natural history began during his childhood explorations of a large parkland estate where he grew up. After initially pursuing a hospital career in the dental profession in London, he returned to Ireland and became involved with environmental recording projects associated with insects, for local conservation and government organisations before developing his natural history photographic career. He is an accomplished natural history photographer, author, entomologist and acclaimed specialist in close-up & macro photography.
I decided to base my photo shoot on Robert Thompsons work because his photos are bright and exciting which shows the true beauty of nature and they are enjoyable to look at. I took picture of insects that were brightly colored or had a brightly colored background in the photo to try to recreate his work, i also used a narrow depth of field as he does in many of his photos.
